Gourmet meat and seafood start-up Licious has been conferred with FSSC22000 Version 4.1 UKAS accreditation for adherence to global standards in quality, hygiene and food safety in its fresh chicken, meat and seafood products.

Speaking to BusinessLine , Abhay Hanjura, co-founder, Licious, said that 72 per cent of Indians eat meat, with 43 per cent consuming poultry, 30 per cent eating seafood, 20 per cent consuming lamb/goat and 7 per cent other meats such as beef, pork and duck.

“In such a scenario, it is critical for the meat to be fresh, for which it needs to be stored at a temperature between 0 and 4 degree C. We maintain this temperature from the time we procure the meat to cleaning, cutting and storing it and right up to delivery at the customer’s doorstep,” said Hanjura.

The start-up has two modern factories in Bengaluru (20,000 sq ft) and Gurugram (30,000 sq ft) and has a team of 650 people on its rolls, including delivery boys.

Backed by investors such as Mohandas Pai, Kanwaljit Singh, Mayfield India, 3one4Capital, Sistema Asia Fund and Neoplux Technology Fund, Licious, founded by Hanjura and Vivek Gupta, has raised $15 million in funding since its inception in September 2015.

The start-up operates in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi, Gurugram and Noida and processes 5,000 orders a day at an average order value of ₹530.
