Recruitment in the media sector is increasing at a time when hiring in auto, pharma, banking and oil and gas sectors via the portal is decreasing, online job portal Naukri.com said.
According to the Naukri Job Speak Index, hiring by the media sector in September was up 43 per cent against the corresponding month last year. The same index had reported that barring telecom, other sectors, including construction and information technology-enabled services, had decreased over September figures.
Hiring by the electronic, dotcom and entertainment sectors was 25 per cent higher than the January 2011 levels, it claimed. The May-11 index at 1025 was the highest point on the job index in three years, according to the portal. “The Naukri Index of the media sector is a reflection of the surge in demand for professionals over the past few months driven by some new entrants in this domain apart from the growth plans of existing players. This will be an interesting space to watch for in the next few quarters despite tough market conditions,” said Mr V. Suresh, Executive Vice-President and National Head, Sales, Naukri.com.
The portal said it enjoyed a traffic share of around 59 per cent according to the July Comscore data, according to a release. Naukri.com serviced over 42,000 corporate clients in 2010-2011.
