Online medical advice start up, MediAngels, will be raising $5 million in next two months to fund its expansion in Gulf region and South East Asia.
``We have already signed term papers for the funds and a formal announcement will be made in about two months,’’ its cofounder and surgeon Debraj Shome told newspersons here on Thursday.
Since its inception in 2011, the Mumbai-based company has so far raised about Rs 8 crore and its investors include HDFC Holdings and VentureEast.
The capital to be mobilised will be invested in advanced technology platforms and expansion to new markets overseas. ``We are focussed on the Gulf and South East Asia as most of our customers outside in India are from these geographies,’’ he said.
Over 30,000 patients used MediAngels services so far and seven per cent of them were from abroad. It has a network of 350 doctors across 93 specialities from 17 countries. ``We are planning to ramp up number of doctors in our net work to about 2000 over a period of time,’’ Shome added.
MediAngels is also working on introducing regional language based portals for better reach beginning with the Hindi, Marathi and Bengali websites.
