Global Consultancy Company KPMG has listed Narmada Canal top solar project in its Economic Power Projects Report which listed out the world’s top 100 innovative infrastructure projects.
Narmada Canal top solar project is one of the 6 projects selected by KPMG from India. This 10 MW Canal Top Solar PV Power has been executed by Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd investing Rs 110 crore at Vadodara in Gujarat and is set to commence production soon.
Built over the Narmada canal, the plant spans canal length of 5.5 km and is constructed with 33,800 solar panels. The plant will produce 16.2 million units in the first year into the grid. The power will be used in five pumping generators located along the Saurashtra branch canals for lift schemes. The project is being executed by MEIL on EPC mode with a maintenance period of 25 years.
Gujarat Government had taken up this 10 MW plant as a pilot to save the land and water evaporation. MEIL has constructed a 50 MW photo-voltaic solar plant at Sakri and a 2 MW photo-voltaic plant at Chandrapur, both located in Maharashtra. MEIL has also executed a 50 MW Concentrated Solar Power Plant in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.
