Mercedes Benz India has launched its fifth AMG performance centre in India at Pune. This is the luxury car maker’s 413th such centre across the world over the last seven years.

At the centre, customers can see and experience the AMG models which is the company’s high performance brand. Currently, seven out of a global portfolio of 37 AMG products worldwide are offered in India.

“Sales of AMG models grew three-fold during 2014, and we expect it to grow by 50% over last year in 2015,” Eberhard Kern, MD and CEO, Mercedes Benz India, said.

Sales growth

Globally, AMG sales saw 50 per cent growth in the same year to touch nearly 48,000 units.

The company plans to introduce the AMG GT, launched in world markets a couple of months ago, in India later this year.

Mercedes has similar AMG centres in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad and Pune, and has no plans to open any further this year, he added.

Features

Ranging from Rs 70 lakh for the CLA/GLA 45 AMG up to Rs 2 crore a piece for the G 63 AMG, the cost of the basic car almost doubles for the choice of being fitted out with the 'one-man, one-engine’ handcrafted only in Affalterbach near Stuttgart in Germany. Each engine comes with the signature of the engineer embedded in it.

According to Deven Bhandari, who has invested over a crore to set up the AMG centre in his dealership, Pune sees a very high demand for these high performance sports cars. “The first two SLS AMGs (with the signature gull wings) in India were sold here, as also the G 55 AMG and the E 63 AMG,” he said.
