Eberhard Kern, MD and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, has said that over the next one year, the company will launch a number of high-end products including those from the Mercedes-AMG performance brands. In a couple of years it will also fills the gaps in its model portfolio, including mid- and small-sized SUVs.
Speaking at the launch of the S-Class model here, priced at Rs 1.56 crore ex-showroom, he said the launch is the first of “several more” of top-end products in India.
The company will be launching a series of AMG performance tours to familiarise potential customers and car enthusiasts with the driving experience and brand of the performance cars. The new launches will cover its entire span of offerings.
The company is buoyed by its performance in India in 2013 under a difficult environment. It sold 9,003 units with more than half the sales coming from the second half, representing a 45 per cent growth over the same time in the previous year.
This was primarily due to the launch of the compact luxury A-Class and luxury tourer B-Class models, Kern said. balaji.ar@thehindu.co.in
