The Consumer Complaints Council of Advertising Standards Council of India said that it had upheld 99 complaints against misleading ads out of the 108 that it received in January.
It said that this was the highest number of complaints upheld against companies in a single month. The Council said that ASCI’s National Advertising Monitoring Service (NAMS) was proficient, tracking down the misleading claims made in ads in various sectors.
“The NAMS initiative has helped in strengthening the self-regulation and redressal process manifold. The proactive monitoring has helped in tracking a wider numbers of misleading ads month on month. This is a positive development as it is helping to protect consumer’s interest in India,” it said in a statement.
The complaints were upheld among various companies in the sectors that included consumer durables, food and beverages, personal care, media, real estate, healthcare and education.
