The Centre should do a lot more to ensure ease of doing business in the country, while regulations should be made simpler at the State-level, Tata Steel’s Managing Director TV Narendran told BusinessLine on Thursday.
He said the government had made some changes to the regulatory regime to make it more predictable and stable, but more needed to be done to ensure ease of doing business.
This apart, international trade agreements should be re-assessed for its pros and cons to ensure it met the stated objective to strengthen domestic industries.
“We need to have fair play so that domestic competitiveness is not eroded. Currently, the playing field is skewed towards imports,” Narendran said.
The company expects the industrial park at Odisha’s Gopalpur, which is being developed by Tata Steel Special Economic Zone, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Steel, to facilitate industrial development in the region and contribute to the holistic development of the area.
Despite dumping of steel by countries with surplus capacity, Tata Steel is confident of selling incremental steel output from its three million-tonne-per-annum plant in Kalinganagar, Narendran said.
