Coal production in the state-owned Singareni Collieries Company Ltd was higher by about 13 per cent even as a section of miners struck work demanding jobs under the Dependant Employee Scheme and other issues.

With a section of workers affiliated to some of the unions striking work forthe past five days, there was general assumption that the coal output will come down.

However, with about 80 per cent of the miners back in the mines, there has been no major impact on the overall mining activity, according to the Singareni management. The management today reiterated that the miners’ interests would be taken care of and appealed to the striking segment of workers to get back to work and step up production.

According to information from Singareni, as against normal output of 1.52 lakh tonnes per day before miners taking up strike, the production was up by 13 per cent at 1.71 lakh tonnes.

The despatches to various consumers has also gone up by 8 per cent to 1.76 lakh tonnes per day up from 1.64 lakh tonnes per day.

As against despatch of about 25 rakes per day, it has gone up to 30 rakes per day.

Singareni further stated the management and miners have ensured adequate supplies to its consumers in spite of strike in the mines.

All the power pants are being supplied with adequate coal for production and there was no disruption, it said.

The Management said that striking work is not the only mode to resolve some of the pending disputes.

It would look into and protect various aspects of the workers interests and appealed to them to rejoin work.
