The Department of Public Enterprises has upgraded the public sector Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) from Schedule ‘B’ to Schedule ‘A’ with effect from July 4.
A press statement by MRPL said here on Monday that the Department of Public Enterprises categorises central public sector undertakings into four schedules — ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’ — based on the laid-down norms and criteria. They include quantitative factors such as investment, capital employed, net sales, profit, number of employees, number of units, etc; and qualitative factors like national importance, complexity of problems, level of technology, prospects for expansion and diversification of activities, competition from other sectors, etc.
As on March 31, there were 61 Schedule ‘A’ public sector undertaking across all sectors. MRPL will be the eighth company to be in the oil and gas category, it added.
