Mukund Rajan appointed Tata brand custodian

Tata Sons has appointed Mukund Govind Rajan as brand custodian and group spokesperson with the responsibility to oversee and manage all corporate communications and brand related activities for the group in India and overseas.

Additionally, Rajan is to serve as the chief ethics officer of the group and also oversee all Tata group Corporate Social Responsibility activities as Chairman of the Tata Council for Community Initiatives.

His appointment is with immediate effect and in his new role, he will report directly to the Group Chairman, Cyrus Mistry, the company said in a statement.

Rajan has been with the Tata group for over 18 years, after starting his career as a Tata Administrative Service (TAS) Officer. Most recently, he was head of private equity advisory at Tata Capital and the Managing Partner of the advisory team of the $1 billion Tata Opportunities Fund.

Tata Capital, the non banking financial services arm of the Tata group has decided to elevate Padmanabh Sinha from chief investment officer to the position of managing partner and Bobby Pauly to the role of partner of the advisory team for the Tata Opportunities Fund.

The announcement is consequent to Mukund Rajan’s appointment at Tata Sons. Mukund Rajan will continue to be associated with the Tata Opportunities Fund and will join Praveen Kadle, CEO and managing director of Tata Capital, as a member on the advisory board of the Tata Opportunities Fund in Singapore.

Rajan has also previously served as Managing Director of Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) and as vice president, Chairman’s Office, at Tata Sons. He graduated from the engineering programme of the IIT, Delhi and also completed a Masters and Doctorate in International Relations from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
