National Aluminium Company Ltd (Nalco) has reported a net profit of Rs 271 crore in the first quarter of 2014-15 against Rs 160 crore in the quarter ended June 30, 2013. Total income has increased from Rs 1,739.26 crore to Rs 1,870.40 crore during the quarter.
On production front, the quantum of bauxite, alumina and aluminium production were 14.04 lakh tonnes, 4.076 lakh tonnes and 79,240 tonnes, respectively. In spite of reduced production level, the company has been able to post higher profits due to improved specific consumption of coal and caustic soda.
Total alumina sale during the quarter was 3.15 lakh tonnes (primarily in exports) and aluminium sales was about 77,400 tonnes, including exports.
