The Bangalore-based healthcare provider Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospitals (NH) Group, will invest $50 million (Rs 250 crore) on setting up a super-specialty hospital in Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the western Caribbean Sea.

The hospital, having 120 beds, is expected to be operational in two years, Dr A. Raghuvanshi, Managing Director, told Business Line here on Thursday.

The NH Group has partnered with the US-based Ascension Hospital Group for the Cayman project, he said.

Interestingly, while NH is foraying overseas, about 10,000 NRI doctors are expected to return to India to work here in the next three years.

“We are getting 10-20 applications each day,” said Dr Devi Shetty, Chairman, NH. The deteriorating economic conditions in many countries, vis-à-vis India, are encouraging Indian doctors to return.

Besides, NH is also in talks with five other global majors in the healthcare sector to establish five hospitals at an investment of $30-40 million each, Dr Raghuvanshi added. However, he declined to elaborate.

As in India, NH is also considering to set up low-cost hospitals in Africa as well.
