Six months after its unit was completely gutted in a fire, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi yesterday inaugurated the manufacturing plant of Hitachi Home and Life Solutions (India) (HHLI) at Kadi here.

HHLI, a subsidiary of Hitachi Appliances Inc, Japan, which is listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange, reconstructed its manufacturing plant spread over 85,000 square metres at Kadi, located 40 kms from Ahmedabad.

HHLI Executive Director, Finance and Accounts, Anil Shah said that “The company has invested Rs 100 crore in reconstructing the entire manufacturing unit which was gutted in a massive fire on July 18, 2012.” The plant’s capacity has also been increased, he said.

“The plant has the capacity to produce 6 lakh units of commercial and domestic air-conditioners, which is 2 lakh units more than the previous plant’s capacity,” he said.

HHLI executive director, Corporate Affairs, Atul Doshi said that Rs 3.5 crore have been spent on constructing technologically advanced fire-fighting solutions.

He said, “In the fire that gutted our unit completely last time, it came to our notice that water was not available in the 5-km periphery and so this time, keeping that in mind, we have constructed a fire-fighting plant with water reservoir.”

On the new products to be introduced, HHLI Managing Director Motoo Morimoto said, “We will launch room air-conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines focussing on inverter technology. We will aim at least 10 per cent growth over last year.”
