Led by new/refreshed launches and low base last year, most of the automobile companies including cars, two-wheelers and commercial vehicles, reported a higher double digit growth in their sales in June.

In the passenger vehicle segment, Maruti Suzuki India registered a growth of 44 per cent in the domestic sales with 1.34 lakh units in June as compared with 93,057 units in June last year.

Hyundai Motor India grew by 21 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to 45,371 units during the month as compared with 37,562 units in same month last year.

Honda Cars India also gained momentum after the launch of the new Amaze and reported a growth of 37 per cent YoY to 17,602 units last month as against 12,804 units in June 2017.

“The response to all new Amaze has been excellent, giving boost to our June sales performance. Early arrival of monsoon across India with prospects of abundant rains, should help rural wealth and spending, bringing cheer to the auto industry over the next few months,” Rajesh Goel, Senior Vice-President & Director, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India, said.

‘EcoSport’-maker Ford India also registered a growth of 37 per cent YoY in June to 8,444 units as compared with 6,149 units in corresponding month last year.

Both the domestic players – Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors – also reported double-digit growth during the month.

Two-wheeler segment

In the two-wheeler segment, market leader Hero MotoCorp again crossed the seven-lakh mark in sales as compared with 6,24,185 units in June last year.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter registered growth of 5.71 lakh units during the month, up 28 per cent as against 4.44 lakh units in corresponding month previous year.

Bajaj Auto grew by 86 per cent to a little more than two-lakh units in June as compared with around one-lakh units in same month last year.

TVS Motor Company, Royal Enfield and Suzuki Motorcycle India also continued their growth momentum during the month.

In the commercial vehicle segment, most of the companies including Tata, Mahindra, Ashok Leyland and Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles reported higher double-digit growth YoY.
