Nike, the official apparel sponsor for Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), launched the newly-designed cricket apparel for the T-20 series for the Indian team.
Symbolising the Indian spirit, the ‘Men in Blue’ will sport the new design in the upcoming seasons, starting with the home series against New Zealand.
Nike’s new T-20 jersey and pants are 45 per cent lighter and are crafted to provide athletes the stretch and flexibility needed during matches. “In addition to offering the highest level of performance innovation, the kit also boasts sustainable innovation. Continuing our efforts on sustainable products that have the least impact on the environment, this T-20 cricket kit is made of 100 per cent recycled polyester,” said Tarun Puri, Managing Director and General Manager, Nike India.
Key design features of the T-20 kit include a new collar, the colours of the National flag “near the athlete’s heart”, three stars above the BCCI crest, signifying the three world cup victories, and a sleek fit.
Indian cricketers Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane sported the new uniform at the launch on Thursday in Mumbai.
“We believe that the innovations in the new kit will provide a competitive advantage to the Team India while complementing their youthful and modern look,” said Puri.
Cricket fans can purchase either the T-20 replica jersey or the authentic game day jersey at Nike stores and leading multi-brand outlets across the country. Nivedita.ganguly@thehindu.co.in
