Activists turned back heavy equipment, including turbines, being transported by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) to the construction site of Lower Subansiri Hydro Power Project in Assam, a statement issued by Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) said on Monday.

The NHPC was using the national waterway of Brahmaputra to carry large equipment to central Assam, the Biswanath Port and from there by road transport to Gerukamukh. The KMSS, which is protesting against big dams, has threatened to intensify its agitation if the Assam Government did not send back the ships immediately.
