NHPC Ltd said it targets to invest Rs 4,000 crore in the current financial year. It will set up nearly 1,200 MW of hydro-power in the year, said Mr A.B.L. Srivastava, Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC. The public sector company invested Rs 3,546 crore in 2011-12.

This capacity addition is spill over from the last financial year and NHPC is planning no new capacities this year, Mr Srivastava added.

At the same time, the total outstanding payment from state utilities with NHPC has touched Rs 1,622 crore as on May 23. “Out of the total amount, Rs 444 crore is considered as possible default since it was not paid within the stipulated time of 60 days,” Mr Srivastava said.

NHPC's five projects are at different stages of getting clearances. When asked about rising problems in the company's Subansiri project located in Assam, Mr Srivastava, said, “About 50 per cent of the work on the project has been done. We are trying to resolve the matter. Once it is done the project would be commissioned in the next four years.”
