Ms Nisha Purushothaman, Joint Managing Director, Empee Distilleries, has been appointed the Vice-Chairperson of the Empee Group.
The Chennai-based Empee Group has a diversified presence in hospitality, sugar and Indian Made Foreign Liquor, and is rapidly expanding its presence across all the areas of operations.
Ms Purushothaman comes in at a crucial time for the Group, said Mr M.P. Purushothaman, Chairman, Empee Group.
The board of directors of the Group companies decided on the appointment on Monday, said a communication from the Group.
Ms Nisha Purushothaman, daughter Mr Purushothaman, is an MBA from the London School of Business. “She has supported the growth of the group from the early days.” She heads the hotel business and the distillery business.
This weekend, Empee Distilleries' brewery division will start its brewery unit near Chennai. The 7.5-lakh cases a month brewery will launch a range of in-house brands including Max Cool, a premium lager beer, and three brands of strong beers — Max 11000, Commando and Horse Power.
The company's grain-based distillery, which will manufacture high-grade potable alcohol for making a premium range of whisky and brandy will commence operations in June, he said.
The group also operates an integrated sugar mill with a 5,000-tonne a day capacity in Tirunelveli and another sugar mill in Naidupet, Andhra Pradesh.
