March 2014 may create history, as Nishi Vasudeva, 57, is likely to become the first woman to take charge as Chairman & Managing Director of a navaratna company Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd.
Vasudeva’s name has been selected by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PSEB) after interviewing seven candidates. The PSEB’s recommendation will now go to the Petroleum & Natural Gas Ministry, which after getting the mandatory clearances, including those from Central Vigilance Commission and CBI will send it to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet for necessary clearance and approval.
At present, Vasudeva is Director (Marketing) in HPCL, and is slated to take over as the Chairman and Managing Director when Subir Roy Choudhury demits office after on attaining superannuation on February 28, 2014. Vasudeva will have a two-year stint as the head of HPCL.
An MBA from Indian Institute of Management- Kolkata, Vasudeva began her career with Engineers India Ltd. She has wide exposure to the petroleum industry spanning over 34 years.
