Japanese auto maker Nissan has introduced its new NissanConnect platform, which will offer audio, navigation, and communication features that integrate with smartphone, in three vehicle models.

NissanConnect is described as a 360-degree connected car software application, which will connect the car with the customer’s family, Nissan network and NissanConnect community through the customer’s smartphone.

This new solution will be available in mid-top variants of Nissan’s Micra, Sunny and Terrano at no-extra cost. The company is also working on making these features available for existing customers soon for a nominal fee.

Smart solutions

The objective is to enhance customer experience and offer better value proposition in its vehicles by offering smart solutions.

NissanConnect platform, which was developed by Renault-Nissan Alliance Technology Business Centre India (RNTBCI) that is located near Chennai, offers about 50 connected features with three years of free subscription and one year of additional Nissan warranty programme.

It is a factory-fitted connected car technology solution with an embedded telematics control unit paired with an inbuilt SIM for every car and a dedicated server.

“This marks the beginning of Nissan vision of Intelligent Mobility in India,” Arun Malhotra, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India, while announcing the roll out of the new solution at RNTBCI.

He explained that the new platform would enable owners of Nissan’s vehicles to locate the car, plan trips better with weather information, faster route guidance, better control of the car with voice and speed alerts, movement of car outside the set boundary or time, sharing of car location and among others.

IoT drive

“The emergence of Internet of Things (IoT) is shifting gears in the automotive industry.

“With NissanConnect, we aim to provide an effortless driving experience integrated with our customers’ connected lifestyle,” said Krishnan Sundararajan, Managing Director, RNTBCI.

The company expects its offering of connected solutions to boost the brand appeal and provide some competitive edge.
