Nissan launches Kicks - the ‘intelligent’ SUV

Japanese auto major Nissan Motor on Tuesday said the company will not only export cars from India operations, but also automotive parts and talent to other parts of the world.

“We will export from India cars, parts and talents. This is clearly India plan for us because what we develop here, the majority of them will be exported to Africa, West Asia and other countries,” Peyman Kargar, Senior Vice-President, Nissan Motor and Chairman of Management Committee for Africa, West Asia and India, told reporters on the sidelines of a new launch here.

Upbeat on India

He said although the company was not satisfied with the number of sales from India right now, but in future there, are a lot to offer including electric vehicles and other eco-friendly technologies such as its e-Power vehicles and hybrids.

To start with, the company will be launching its electric car ‘Leaf’ later this year, which is doing test-runs on the Indian roads right now.

“Leaf is a proof-point (that) we want to bring in India because this is a direction of leadership in EV we have in the world,” Kargar said.

Meanwhile, Nissan India launched its ‘intelligent’ sports utility vehicle (SUV), Kicks, priced between ₹9.55 lakh and ₹14.65 lakh (introductory prices, ex-showroom, all India). Manufactured at the company’s plant at Oragadam, Chennai, the new offer from Nissan has a combination of premiumness, spacious interiors and stylish exteriors, the company said.

It is available in 1.5H 4K petrol option driven by five-speed manual transmission and 1.5K 9K dci diesel engine driven by six-speed manual transmission. While, the petrol version has fuel efficiency of 14.23 kmpl, the diesel variant has 20.45 kmpl (as per ARAI certification), the company said.

Under Nissan Care, customers can choose from packages covering maintenance, 24x7 road side assistance, insurance and warranty.

The packages offer savings of up to 30 per cent compared to paying for regular maintenance, it said.

The new SUV from the Nissan stable will be competing with the likes of Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki S-Cross which are priced in the range of ₹8.85 lakh and ₹15.10 lakh.
