Nissan Motor India has seen near three times growth in its March annual sales numbers.
The company reported its highest ever monthly sales in India at 5,880 units in March 2012. For the year-ago period, the company had seen sales of 2,101 units.
“Breaking the 5,000 sales mark after just 20 months of operation, and repeating the feat for three successive months is a milestone in our continuing development in what is one of Nissan’s most strategically important markets,” said Mr Ishida Takayuki, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India.
Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) sold 33,275 units this fiscal as opposed to 13,043 units last fiscal. Nissan Sunny has sold 14,164 units since its launch in September 2011.
The Nissan Micra sold 18,650 units in FY-12, an increase of more than 50 per cent from the previous year. Locally manufactured models account for more than 90 per cent of our total sales, said a news release from the company.
“The models driving growth are produced here at our Oragadam plant in Chennai. From autumn this year, we will add the innovative Evalia urban-class vehicle to this portfolio, thus bringing a wider choice for our valued customers,” said Mr Takayuki.
