Nitta Gelatin India Ltd today launched Gelixer – CollagenPep, a nutritional supplement, in Tamil Nadu.

This is the company’s first consumer product. Nitta Gelatin is a leading food-grade gelatine producer in India. Besides catering to the domestic pharma and food industries, it has also been exporting including to the US, Japan, Canada and the European Union.

According to G. Suseelan, Managing Director, this product is an over-the-counter food supplement for osteoarthritis. Proven as safe nutritional supplement for bone and joint health, it promotes cartilage health and improves joint flexibility and mobility. “It has been well received and gained acceptance in Kerala and other test markets,” he said.

Addressing the media here today, he said the company plans to “aggressively promote” this product across the country in phases.

Priced at Rs 600 for a 150-gm pack, Gelixer will be available at all branded and retail pharmaceutical counters.

It has also pioneered an agricultural growth promoter product, Nutrigold, which was developed in collaboration with Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.

The company plans to offer more consumer products.

Listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange, Nitta Gelatin is a joint venture between Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation Ltd and Nitta Gelatin Inc of Japan. While the Japanese company has 46 per cent stake and KSIDC 34 per cent in the company, the rest is held by the public.

The company has five manufacturing facilities in India — three in Kerala, and one each in Maharashtra and Gujarat (Vadodara).

For the financial year 2011-12, it posted a turnover of Rs 260 crore and hopes to post Rs 300 crore during the current financial year, said Suseelan.
