Neyveli Lignite Corporation workers will continue with the indefinite strike protesting the Union Government plans to divest a portion of its holding in the company.

Representatives of 16 unions who participated in conciliation talks with management representatives in the presence of Tamil Nadu Labour Department officials declined to call off the strike, according to G. Kuppuswamy, President, CITU-NLC union.

The workers are against the Government’s plan to divest a five per cent stake in NLC, he said. The workers have decided to intensify their agitation and go on indefinite fast from tomorrow to reiterate their demand, he added.

The Government holds a 93 per cent stake in the mining and power generation company.
