Public sector KIOCL Ltd has signed an agreement with NMDC for operation and maintenance of the Donimalai plant in Karnataka.

The company that operates a highly mechanised magnetite iron ore mine, a beneficiation plant and a pellet plant has now entered into an agreement with NMDC, said Malay Chatterjee, Chairman and Managing Director, KIOCL.

NMDC, a central public sector and a merchant miner that has iron ore mines at Donimalai, has set up a beneficiation plant of 1.89 million tonnes a year and a pellet plant of 1.2 mtpa for commercial pellet manufacturing.

KIOCL, with the requisite expertise in the operation and maintenance of beneficiation plant and pellet plant, has offered its services for operation and maintenance.

NMDC and KIOCL have arrived on a common understanding and entered into an agreement on Wednesday at Donimalai to operationalise the plant.

The agreement was signed by N Vidyananda, Director-Production and Projects, KIOCL, and CE Kindo, Executive Director and in-charge Donimalai Project, NMDC.

According to the agreement, it will facilitate KIOCL to gainfully utilise its experienced manpower for operating the NMDC plants for mutual benefit of both companies.

Chatterjee said: “Operation and maintenance vertical” that he has spearheaded for implementation as a diversification measure, has come as a succour to the company in the absence of captive mines to utilise its available experienced competent manpower.
