As the festival kicks in with ‘Navratras’, home-grown auto major Tata Motors said that new launches from the company will be enough reasons for people to buy their cars, apart from the discount offers that it has announced recently.

The company in the last two months has launched newer editions of the Tiago, Nexon and Tigor to excite the market, Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, told BusinessLine on the sidelines of the new Tigor launch here adding that the company would do better than last year in the festival season.

The company launched Nexon ‘Kraz’ as a limited edition early last month, followed by Tiago NRG, an SUV inspired vehicle and now the all-new Tigor for better footfalls at the dealers.

“The idea is to create enough talking points in the market for customers to come and buy it. Apart from festival offers, excitement makes the market. Every company must be doing something or the other, but only discounts would not work much,” Pareek said.

The company is offering discounts from ₹40,000 to around ₹1 lakh on its range of vehicles — Tiago to Hexa – although are not cash discounts, but only benefits like on insurance or warranty for those amounts.

Therefore, Tata Motors is offering refreshed/ limited versions of its products to gain better momentum during the festival season. “Only discount does not work for long…it just pre-pones the sales. But, new products do make a difference,” Pareek said.

Tigor

The company launched the new Tigor priced competitively between ₹5.20 lakh and ₹7.38 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which will be competing with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Dzire (priced at ₹5.60 lakh to ₹8.98 lakh and Honda Amaze (₹5.80 lakh to ₹8.10 lakh) and recently launched all-new Ford Aspire (₹5.55 lakh to ₹8.49 lakh).

Apart from Tata Motors, there are only a few companies that are offering festival discounts this year because of macro economic factors such as fuel price, rupee depreciation and higher interest rates.

Even market leader Maruti Suzuki India is giving out very limited offers during the season this year. It has recently announced a ‘Limited edition’ of the WagonR to start with and ‘Service festival’ for existing owners, in which there is a ‘scratch and win vouchers’ offering discounts and special offers.

The scheme entitles the customers to get offers on extended warranty, parts, and accessories and complimentary dry wash for their cars.
