India's largest power generation company, NTPC Ltd has added a record capacity of 2,820 MW during 2011-12.
With this capacity addition, the energy company has surpassed its earlier best capacity addition of 2,490 MW achieved during 2010-11. The total capacity of the company is now 37,000 MW.
NTPC on Wednesday informed that the Unit 6 of 500 MW of the Farakka Super Thermal Power Station has started commercial operations. With this, the commercial capacity of Farakka is 2,100 MW.
During last financial year, NTPC brought on stream two units of 660 MW at Sipat (Chhattisgarh), and 500 MW units each at its power stations in Jhajjar (Haryana), Simhadri (Andhra Pradesh) and Vallur (Tamil Nadu).
The total installed capacity of NTPC is 37,014 MW, with 15 coal-based plants, 7 gas power stations and 7 joint venture and subsidiary power projects located across India.
According to a statement, NTPC is currently working on over 14,000 MW new capacity and is planning to become 128,000 MW-plus company by 2032.
