NTPC on Saturday will start commercial generation from the 5 MW solar photo-voltaic (PV) plant at Dadri. This would be NTPC’s first step for renewable power generation.

The project set up at Rs 48.59 crore will sell power to GRIDCO Ltd in Orissa. According to CERC, the tariff is Rs. 15.39 / unit.

The project, set up at 27 acres in the existing Dadri complex of NTPC, is estimated to generate 7.26 million units annually. Also, the solar project is estimated to reduce the carbon emission by 0.82 MT/MWhr.

The design life of Solar PV plant is 25 years. It will use 20,856 of PV modules for generation of electricity. Each PV module consists of 60 nos Poly-crystalline silicon cell.

The project would run at plant load factor of 16.6 per cent. The green project is funded through debt – equity ratio of 70 : 30.

NTPC added 3,610 MW additional capacity in 2012-13 taking its total installed capacity to  40,674 MW.
