Shareholders of Tata Chemicals have voted out Nusli Wadia as independent director at the extraordinary general meeting of the company held here on Friday.
Of the total 25.48 crore shares of the company, 14.91 crore shares were voted and of this 11.28 crore were in favour of the resolution to remove him.
The company said 3.55 crore votes, accounting for 24.33 per cent of votes polled, were against his removal.
With this outcome, Wadia has been voted out as independent director from all the three Tata Group companies - Tata Steel, Tata Motors and Tata Chemicals.
In November, Tata Chemicals promoter Tata Sons directed the company to convene EGM to seek shareholders approval for removing the company's Chairman Cyrus Mistry and Wadia.
Early last week, Mistry resigned as director from all the six listed Tata companies ahead of EGMs.
Wadia, who was charged for galvanising other independent directors support for estranged director Mistry and plotting against the promoter Tata Sons. He has been an independent director of three Tata companies for 35 years.
Denying Tata Sons allegations, Wadia has filed a criminal defamation suit against Tata Sons, its interim chairman Ratan Tata and some directors for alleged "defamatory and offending" contents in the resolution moved to seek his removal from three Tata Group firms.
Incidentally, Tata Chemicals shareholders have approved a resolution to appoint Bhaskar Bhat as a director of the company with 79.26 per cent of votes going in his favour.
They also voted in support of the appointment of S Padmanabhan as director of the company with 89.29 per cent voting in favour of a resolution for his appointment.
