Online grocer Bigbasket forays into Kochi

Online grocer bigbasket has forayed into Kochi, thereby making its presence in 26 cities in India.

Customers can now shop online through the bigbasket app or website from the largest assortment of 22,000+ products and 3,000+ brands and have them delivered at their doorstep. This includes everything from fresh fruits, vegetables, grocery and cosmetics.

As a part of the launch offer, the first 2,000 customers can avail 10 per cent cash back on all orders for the first 3 months. To begin with, customers will be able to choose from four delivery slots and avail free delivery on all orders above Rs 1,200.

According to Hari Menon, CEO and Co-founder, bigbasket’s differentiation lies in its private label brands and supply chain integration for fresh fruits, vegetables and meats. The company aims to double its revenue to Rs 6,300 crore in FY20. It expects 40 per cent of its projected revenue to come from private labels, which currently stands at 34 per cent.

With the recent funding, bigbasket has become the latest entrant to India’s unicorn club. In April, the Mirae Asset- Naver Asia Growth Fund (“Mirae-Naver”), CDC Group, and Alibaba Group led a $150 million round of fund raising for Supermarket Grocery Supplies Pvt Ltd, owner of the bigbasket brand. bigbasket had closed a $200-million round led by the Alibaba Group last year in February.

Servicing about 1 lakh orders per day, the e-retail major has 12 million registered customers across India.
