Parag Milk Products (Pvt.) Ltd, manufacturers of Gowardhan and Go brands of milk products, has forayed into the Indian cottage cheese market with Gowardhan Fresh Paneer made from cow’s milk.
Known as Indian cottage cheese, it is the largest category by volume and value, after liquid milk in the dairy segment.
Mahesh Israni, Chief Marketing Officer, Parag Milk, said: “We are strengthening our distribution of fresh paneer in the top 50 cities across the country over the next three months. Our plan is to touch 200 tonnes per month immediately and 500 tonnes per month by next year.”
Traditionally made either at home or local dairies and distributed locally, the bulk of one-lakh-tonne Indian cottage cheese market is ruled by unorganised segment. Over the years, consumers’ preference is shifting from homemade or local paneer to branded products.
