Nearly 67 per cent digitisation has been achieved in 38 cities in phase-II of the process, the deadline for which is March 31, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has said.
As per the data received from DTH operators and multi-system operators (MSOs), as on March 23, a total of 1.08 crore set-top boxes have been installed in phase-II cities, against the target of 1.60 crore, registering overall achievement of over 67 per cent digitisation, said the Ministry statement.
Four cities — Hyderabad, Amritsar, Chandigarh and Allahabad — have achieved nearly 100 per cent digitisation, while Jodhpur, Thane, Aurangabad, Jaipur, Pune, Faridabad, Nashik, and Ghaziabad have achieved nearly 75 per cent digitisation, it said.
Further analysis of the data has shown that nearly 28 cities have achieved 50 per cent digitisation individually.
While a public awareness campaign to ‘sensitise’ the viewers is being run by the Ministry and television channels, it has also asked MSOs to depute representatives for the control room, which is linked with a toll-free number, to address consumer queries.
