PNGRB issues notice to Adani Gas over unauthorised development of CGD network

Acting on Gujarat Gas’ complaint, regulator asks Adani Group to respond within 3 weeks

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board has issued a notice to Adani Gas Limited on the complaint filed by the Gujarat Gas Limited (GGL) for unauthorised development of city gas distribution network by the former in Ahmedabad district.

In its order dated April 4, the regulator has asked the Adani Group's CGD arm to file a reply on the complaint within three weeks.

In its complaint, GGL had alleged that Adani Gas has laid and is continuing to lay, expand and commence operations of an unauthorised gas distribution network in Ahmedabad district (excluding the area already authorised). According to Gujarat Gas, the said geographical area was authorised to it by the Board vide its authorisation dated June 22, 2016.

The complaint has been filed under section 21(3) r.w. ss. 12(1)(b), 25, 13(1)(g), 28 & 48 of the PNGRB Act, 2006. The Board admitted the complaint in relation to unauthorised development of CGD network and other violations of the PNGRB Act, 2006 by Adani Gas.

The country's largest CGD player, Gujarat Gas has around 20,000 kilometers of gas pipeline network under its operations and caters to over 11.6 lakhs households and 3050 industrial customers.

Adani Gas, on the other hand, has set up CGD networks in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Faridabad (Haryana) and Khurja in Uttar Pradesh. Apart from these, the development of CGD network in Allahabad, Chandigarh, Ernakulam, Panipat, Daman, Dharwad, and Udhamsingh Nagar is awarded to consortium of Adani Gas Ltd and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.
