Students, trade unions and social activists belonging to 20 organisations on Thursday held a protest rally in front of the Labour Ministry.
They were seeking an independent inquiry into the violence in Maruti’s Manesar unit on July 18.
The rally also demanded the immediate release of 114 arrested workers and taking back to work of those who had been “falsely implicated”.
Seeking immediate restoration of labour laws in Maruti Suzuki India Pvt. Ltd as and other industries in Haryana, the rally said only permanent recruitment should be done for work of perennial nature.
Blaming the Maruti management for the ugly turn of events on July 18, the protesters also called for interrogation of the security in-charge of Maruti Suzuki India to find the whereabouts of the bouncers involved in the incident and demanded their arrest.
Later, in a prèss release, the protesters condemned the police for resorting to lathi-charge, even on women.
The rally was addressed by representatives of the All India Federation of Trade Unions (New), Inqlabi Mazdoor Kendra, ICTU, People’s Union for Democratic Rights among others.
