Anil Ambani group company Reliance Defence Ltd and Russian defence manufacturer Almaz-Antey have decided to jointly make missiles and radar systems for the Indian armed forces.
The tie-up was announced on Thursday in the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia.
A press statement issued by Reliance Defence said the companies have identified air defence missile systems including the TOR-1M missile programme, radars and automated control systems as areas of partnership under the Make in India initiative as well as offset policies of the Defence Ministry.
Future requirements Almaz-Antey’s Vice-Chairman VF Medovnikov said that working with Reliance Defence will help the company develop new directions and address the future requirements of the Indian armed forces.
The two sides have also discussed the joint implementation of modernisation, repair and overhaul of Almaz-Antey systems that are already in service with the Indian forces. Opportunities in R&D cooperation for developing new products in the defence sector were also discussed, the statement added.
Reliance Defence had earlier signed an MoU with Abu Dhabi Ship Building for cooperation in naval, military and commercial vessels. The agreement also envisages the building of frigates, destroyers and other specialised vessels for the Gulf Cooperation Council. The company has another MoU with Emirates Defence for defence goods, ships and aviation business.
