Reliance Power Ltd has commenced generation at the first of the two 300 MW units that make up the second phase of the company's Rosa Project in Uttar Pradesh.
The Rosa Project, with cumulative capacity of 1,200 MW, entails an investment outlay of over Rs 6,000 crore, the company said in a statement.
Mr J.P. Chalasani, Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Power, said: “We built the first phase of the Rosa Project in 30 months and have beaten our own record by completing the second phase in just 26 months… The 1,200-MW Rosa Project will also add to the Central Government's Eleventh Plan target for capacity addition and will set the foundation for the next phase of growth for Reliance Power.”
Like Rosa-Phase I, the second phase is also a coal-based project with two sub-critical technology based units of 300 MW each. The second phase, being a brownfield expansion project, utilises the land already acquired and water already allocated for Rosa Phase-I.
The project has also secured fuel supply with Government awarding long-term coal linkage from Central Coal Fields for capacity expansion. The project had achieved financial closure in July 2009, with a consortium of banks led by IDBI Bank. The company will supply the entire 600 MW from the second phase to Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd, it said.
