French carmaker Renault has launched the entry-level sedan ‘Scala’ at a starting price of Rs 6.99 lakh for the petrol variants and Rs 8.69 lakh for diesel.
Renault’s fifth model in India and the third focussed on the mass market (after Pulse and Duster), the Scala is priced about Rs 1 lakh more than alliance partner, Nissan’s Sunny (Rs 5.93 lakh starting price).
It shares mostly all components with the Sunny, much like the Renault Pulse and Nissan Micra hatches.
Both sedans are made at the Chennai group plant, while the 1.5-litre diesel and petrol engines are also shared.
Apart from the Sunny, the Scala would compete with models such as the Hyundai Verna, Skoda Fabia and Volkswagen Vento.
The Scala features leather upholstery, steering mounted audio controls, automatic climate control and a smart key. On the outside, it has a chrome radiator grill and door handles, smoke styled headlamps and 15-inch sporty alloy wheels.
