Renault India on Monday launched its compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) Captur with an introductory price range of ₹10 lakh to ₹13.89 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), which will compete with the likes of Maruti Brezza, Ford Ecosport, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Creta and Jeep Compass.

The petrol option is priced between ₹10 lakh and ₹11.70 lakh and the diesel option is priced between ₹11.40 lakh and ₹13.89 lakh. The company said the Captur has a unique vehicle class, led by its expressive design, premium and class-leading features and innovative technology.

More than 50 premium features as standard equipment from the starting variant onwards, including projector headlamps, LED daylight running lamps and an integrated audio system, it said.

“With its design which represents Renault’s new design DNA, Renault Captur delivers on our promise of bringing the best from Renault’s global product range to India,” said Sumit Sawhney, Country Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Renault India Operations.

In 2017 alone, the SUV segment in India has grown by 46 per cent, he said, adding that “customers are now preferring stylish SUVs with a lot of features and Captur will address those needs”.

Worldwide also there’s a trend towards SUV, but the definition is changing with people now preferring stylish ones over boxy designs, Sawhney said.

The Renault Captur will be available in three variants with both petrol (1.5L) and diesel (1.5L) engine options. In addition, the exclusive Platine variant will be available in diesel option.

While the petrol option with five-speed transmission will give a mileage of 13.87 kmpl, the diesel variant with six-speed transmission will give fuel economy of 20.37 kmpl (as per tests conditions), the company added.
