Representatives of various unions of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (Visakhapatnam Steel Plant), along with the MLA of Gajuwaka, Ch. Venkataramaiah, and the Union Minister of State for HRD, D. Purandeswari, who represents Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency, met Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma in New Delhi on Monday and opposed the proposed disinvestment in the company and the IPO planned for later this month.
The IPO, to mobilise Rs 2,500 crore, is to hit the market on October 16 and will remain open till October 18.
The steel plant employees have served a notice for strike on October 12 and 13 against the move.
In a press release issued here on Monday, the union leaders said they had met the Union Minister for Steel and represented to him to prevail upon the Government to desist from the move, which would ultimately lead to privatisation of the plant.
