Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd has registered growth of nine per cent in saleable steel during April-August period (1.01 million tonnes against last year's 9.33 lakh tonnes), according to a press release. In spite of difficult market conditions and sluggishness in domestic as well as global markets, the RINL achieved sales turnover of Rs 1,260 crore in August, 17 per cent higher than that achieved during last August. Iron and steel sales in 2013-14 up to August recorded growth of six per cent, 1.13 million tonnes this year against last year's 1.07 million tonnes. The company has taken several initiatives to strengthen the rural market to increase consumption of steel in rural areas and has appointed 630 rural dealers up to August.
