RmKV, a major manufacturer and retailer of silk sarees, on Wednesday introduced the ‘Jadau silk saree' range in Coimbatore.

The company claims that it has used the ‘inlay technique' that traditional artisans like sculptors and goldsmiths use in their trade and intends to patent this technique in saree production as it is a ‘technological breakthrough in silk weaving itself.'

Inlay technique

Speaking to news persons here at the launch function, Mr Rm.K. Sivakumar, Managing Partner, RmKV, said the product was the culmination of two years of team work by the RmKV R&D team and the design studio, apart from the numerous experimentations that was done to come out with this winning product.

He said the Jadau sarees were woven in looms that were specially created and by weavers who were handpicked for the purpose. He said the ‘inlay technique' demanded many modifications in the ‘loom structure, the process technique and product development'.

Mr Sivakumar said a weaver using this technique could, with a single shuttle insertion, create ‘colourful inlay motif with a lustrous sheen and smooth feel fabric.' Explaining the advantages of the inlay technique adopted in weaving the Jadau saree, he said, that for the weavers the main advantage was it would make the entire job of weaving less cumbersome and cut the weaving time.

Mrs Vanitha Mohan, Executive Director, Pricol, Coimbatore, launched the saree.
