Ahmedabad-based Roselabs Bioscience Ltd has entered into a loan-licence agreement with Hyderabad-based vaccine maker Bharat Biotech for pre-filled syringes (PFS).

As part of the pact, Bharat Biotech would use the pre-filled syringe manufacturing facility of Roselabs to manufacture pre-filled syringes for its vaccines, Zameer Agarwal, Director, Roselabs Bioscience, told newspersons here on Thursday.

The privately-held company had commercialised eight production lines of complete PFS manufacturing unit in November 2012 with an investment of Rs 400 crore.

“Generally, 95 per cent of PFS in the country is now being imported in parts and then later assembled here. Ours is the only facility which makes complete syringes with certification from WHO-GMP standards,’’ he said.

The company is now in talks with other companies in Hyderabad to enter into contract manufacturing of pre-filled syringes.

While general waiting time for imported PFS is four/five months, Roselabs would supply them in 40/50 days at about 15-20 per cent cheaper rate, Agarwal said.

Last year, three billion PFS units were sourced globally and India accounted for only 0.1 per cent of this market.
