Reliance Power generation will be 5,000 MW by 2012, Mr J.P. Chalasani, Chief Executive Officer, said while pointing out that the company had shifted to the operating phase this year.
Operating revenues for the last fiscal rose to Rs 1,054 crore as against Rs 21 crore logged in the previous year. Net profit for the year was up 11 per cent at Rs 760 crore as against Rs 684 crore.
The first year's operating profits from generating assets was Rs 416 crore, with phase I (600 MW) of the Rosa Project working at over 90 per cent PLF (plant load factor).
Mr Chalasani said the 600-MW Butibori project and Rosa phase II (600 MW) were ahead of schedule and would be commissioned in FY11-12. Similarly, the 2,400 MW gas-based Samalkot project too was on track and would be commissioned by the end of this year.
Three sets of two turbines each would be commissioned between December and February and all indications are that it would get gas supply as the Central Electricity Authority had inspected the progress at site as also visited GE facilities in the US to ascertain the progress of supply of equipment.
Lifted by Rosa
On whether assurances were given for gas supply, he said the inspection was an indicator that it would come. In case of any issue, alternatives had been planned as any corporate would do for eventualities.
BL Research Bureau adds: Reliance Power's operating revenues for the March 2011 quarter was Rs 495 crore as against Rs 560 crore revenues earned for the nine months ended December 2010.
Rosa Phase I (600 MW) power project, which operated at a plant load factor of 44 per cent for the nine months till December, witnessed a sharp improvement to 85 per cent during the current quarter improving the overall operating revenues for the company.
The rise in PLF of Rosa Phase I more than compensated for the falling generation from the other projects (Kochi and Samalkot) gas based projects generated less than targeted generation for the quarter ended March 2011. While Rosa generated 1,124 million units, Kochi and Samalkot projects generated 395 mu during the March quarter. There are no operational merchant projects, however, Rosa Phase 2 will come in stream this fiscal which has 300 MW of merchant capacity.
The company continues to have Rs 4,000 crore of unutilised investments from the IPO proceeds down from Rs 4,250 crore sequentially. Reliance Power had raised Rs 11,563 crore in 2008 by way of initial public offer.
MINING
On mining, Mr Chalasani said work had begun at the first Sasan coal mine, and all environmental clearances were in place. The second mine falls in the ‘no-go' area and clearances were needed. Approvals had come in for the mine plan for the 40 MTPA Tilaiya mines and development work was on. The first unit at Sasan UMPP would also be ready by 2012 end, he said.
On Friday, the company scrip was up 4.98 per cent at Rs 116 on BSE.
