Reliance Power today said that it has started electricity generation from the first 660-MW unit of Sasan ultra mega power project.
The first unit of the 3,960-MW Sasan UMPP in Madhya Pradesh was commissioned on March 30, the company said in a statement.
Power generated from the project would be sold to 14 distribution companies across seven States.
“The Sasan UMPP is the largest integrated power plant and coal mining project in the world with an estimated investment of over Rs 23,000 crore,” Reliance Power said.
Reliance Power Chief Executive Officer J.P. Chalasani said the “successful commissioning of the first unit in record time is a clear demonstration of the execution capabilities of Reliance — the ability to build large power and coal mine projects ahead of schedule’’.
According to the company, coal production has commenced from Moher and Moher-Amlohri coal mines. The Chhatrasal coal block has also received forest clearance and is under development.
