Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, on Friday, inaugurated pharma major Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd’s anti-cancer drug manufacturing facility near Vadodara, set up at an investment of Rs. 300 crore.

Speaking on the occasion, Alembic Chairman and CEO Chirayu Amin said the 110-year-old company’s new plant will have an initial manufacturing capacity of 60 million tablets / capsules and around 20 million vials of liquid injectable and lyophilized concentrates.

With this oncology manufacturing facility, Alembic is entering in the growing global oncology segment and will commence exporting oncology products to US, Middle East, North Africa, Australia and South Africa, he said.

The publicly-listed entity that manufactures and markets generic pharmaceutical products globally, had recently set up an R&D centre at Hyderabad. Alembic invests 11% of its turnover on R&D, according to a press release here.

As a growth strategy, the company aims to explore opportunities in the therapeutic areas such as dermatology, oncology and injectable formulations.
