SAIL has reported a 10 per cent growth in January sales at 1.14 million tonnes over the corresponding month last year, on pick-up in demand in the domestic market.
Total sales in the April-January period of the current fiscal were up 8 per cent at 9.84 mt against 9.09 mt in the corresponding period last year, the company said. Exports for the period were up 47 per cent.
SAIL attributed the increase in sales to the concerted efforts made by the company towards producing tailor-made steel to meet customer requirement. Production of saleable steel during the April-January period was up 4 per cent at 10.74 m t.
“The uptrend in the first month of 2014 is a firm indicator of the times to come. We are confident of maintaining the momentum in sales growth, which will be supported by the production of better and wider range of products like the universal beam, wire rods and wider plates from the new facilities coming up in phases,” SAIL Chairman, C.S.Verma, said in a statement.
SAIL scrip was trading flat on the BSE at ₹64.10 in the early trade on Monday.
