Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has registered a growth of 11 per cent in production of saleable steel in May. This is its best-ever May performance
Sets new record
The company produced 1.152 million tonnes setting a new record. The previous best was 1.135 million tonnes.
The company also said that a continued thrust on improving key techno-economic parameters has resulted in a 3 per cent reduction in energy consumption.
Power generation and blast furnace productivity also improved 8 per cent and 5 per cent, respectively, Production through the energy-efficient continuous casting route crossed 0.8 million tonnes.
Production of value added and special steel from Integrated Steel Plants of SAIL also went up by around 8 per cent in May ’13 against corresponding period of last year.
SAIL Chairman C. S. Verma observed that the mood in the company is upbeat with the expected addition of over 5 million tonnes per year of hot metal capacity in the current financial year.
With this, production will go up to over 19 million tonnes from the present level of 14 million tonnes.
