As part of its long-term capacity expansion, SAIL has said that it would increase its Rourkela Steel Plant's installed capacity of producing hot metal to 10 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) from the present level of around 4.5 MTPA.
In a disclosure to the stock exchanges, SAIL said that the company was in the process of finalising plan to increase the production capacity to 50 MTPA by 2025. SAIL also aims to expand the capacity of its mines. However, the capital expenditure plan is yet to be drawn up.
SAIL added that on thumb-rule basis, it may incur a cost of around Rs 5,000 crore to add 1 MTPA capacity.
