Sany, a leading manufacturer of port logistics equipment, has entered into an agreement with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) for the design, manufacture and supply of 15 electrically-operated rubber-tyred gantry cranes (E-RTGCs).

The contract marks the entry of Sany Group into the heavy gantry cranes segment in India, a statement said. This new batch of E-RTGCs will modernise the existing fleet, catering to increasing traffic at JNPT.

"We were in need of additional RTGCs to ensure minimum cycle time and to support the traffic demand. After induction of 15 new E-RTGCs, JNPT will be in position to cater to EXIM trade in a more efficient manner,” A J Lokhande, Chief Manager, mechanical & electrical and port planning & development, JNPT, said .

Deepak Garg, CEO, Sany India added, “Sany is excited to enter the heavy gantry cranes segment in India. Equipped with jacking yard-turning mechanism, the (RTGC) can travel laterally and longitudinally and is equipped with self-rotary for bunching operation and independent operation. Our intent is to associate with ports such as JNPT and to contribute to the development and modernisation of ports in India.”

The Sany Group entered the Indian market in 2002 and established a manufacturing plant in 2009 in Chakan, Pune. In India, the company manufactures excavators, truck mounted cranes, crawler cranes, transit mixers, batching plants, motor graders and piling rigs. The group currently employs about 30,000 people globally and 300 people in India.
